Top Ten Books I Could Re-read Forever

This week's Top Ten Tuesday theme is the Top Ten Books I Could Re-Read Forever. This isn't even a hypothetical list. These are the books I"m pretty sure I've re-read the most and I'm pretty sure I'll just keep re-reading them... forever.

  1. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen- I've lost track of how many times I've read my favorite book.
  2. The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien- Again I've lost track of how many times I've re-read this classic. I know it's probably been less than some as it's longer but I've still read it many times.
  3. Coronation of Glory by Deborah Meroff- Something about this book and the story of Lady Jane Grey really appeals to me and I've revisited this book many times.
  4. Leave it to Psmith by P.G. Wodehouse- My favorite of P.G. Wodehouse's novels and one I've re-read and, now that I have an audiobook of it, re-listenend to a lot.
  5. This Present Darkness and Piercing the Darkness by Frank Peretti- I've re-read these two books countless times. Are they the greatest books? Not really. Do I still love them? Yup!
  6. Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling- No explanation needed here.
  7. The Redwall series by Brian Jacques- I haven't re-read these in awhile but I did a ton as a kid and my heart longs to revisit the series.
  8. The Horse and His Boy by C.S. Lewis- I've read this the most of the Chronicles of Narnia series for good reason... it's the best!
  9. Anne of Green Gables series by Lucy Maud Montgomery- Read and re-read over and over gain. One can't get enough of this spunky ginger!
  10. The Wizard of Oz series by L. Frank Baum- Again I haven't re-read these in a while, except the first book for book club last year, but I re-read this series so many times as a kid and I really want to re-read them again.

This post just makes me want to go back and re-read a few of my favorites!
What about you? What are the books you could re-read forever?

It's Monday! Of Checklists and a Tolkien Party

As my due date approaches I've been making checklists and trying to actually complete them. I did get the Christmas tree down finally last week. I've been buying more books at used book sales and Goodwill so adding to my workload. I'm just clever that way. I have a pretty good stash of freezer meals already though!
We had our first baby shower recently, that some dear friends put on for us and specifically made Tolkien themed. It was AMAZING!!! We had hobbit themed snacks and decorations. There was even a "No admittance except on party business" sign on their door! It was a Tolkien nerd's dream! And while not everyone gave us Tolkien themed gifts several did and we came away with some Tolkien art, a little hobbit dress and a quilted wall hanging of Bag End! Here are a few pictures of the marvelous event!

I'm afraid no other baby shower will ever match up! It was a dream come true!

Anyways on to reading! I've finished up a couple books recently and I'm working on some more. I'm feeling behind already but I'm trying not to let it stress me out and just enjoy the reading I do get done.

Finished Recently

  • Total Truth by Nancy Pearcey
  • Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way by Susan McCutcheon
  • The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding by LaLeche League
  • A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle (re-read)

Currently Reading

  • The Mill on the Floss by George Elliot (audiobook)
  • War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy (eBook)
  • The Pickwick Papers by Charles Dickens
  • The Mortification of Sin by John Owen (eBook)
  • God Is by Mark Jones

  • Nothing planned right now.

We Love Superheroes Tag

Hamlette from Hameltte's Soliloquy is having a We Love Superheroes Week over on her blog so you NEED to go check it out if you love superheroes in any way shape or form... she's including everything from Marvel to DC to Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog to The Incredibles so you know it's going to be awesome! To kick off the week she's having a tag, which of course I'm going to fill out as you know me and my affinity for tags.
And to really get myself in the mood I think I'll listen to a little music from Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog. :)

1. Who are your favorite superheroes? (Go ahead and list up to five if you want!)

  • Captain America... An exemplary guy. How can you not like him?
  • Black Widow... I love that she doesn't have any real superhero powers per say but still has got the moves!
  • Batman... I've never seen a single Batman movie except oddly enough the Lego Batman movie but it's been an inside joke that "I'm Batman" for so long I'm struggling to remember how it started... I even have Batman pajamas.
  • Superman... not really.... but everyone assumes he is cause my name is Lois and Lois Lane and all. I've never watched a single Superman movie either.

2. What's your favorite superhero movie?

Wow.... how to choose? I love The Incredibles, all of the Captain America movies, both Guardians of the Galaxy and the first Avengers movie. Those are probably my favorites.

3. Do you have a favorite superhero couple?

Captain America and Peggy Carter. I love that she was interested in him before he got all interesting if you know what I mean. Also of course Mr. Incredible and Elastagirl. <3

4. What was your introduction to the world of superheroes?

The first superhero movies I can remember watching were the Toby Maguire Spiderman movies. After that it would have been The Incredibles. Then in 2012 we watched The Avengers and we've been going steady since then.

5. If you could be any superhero for a day, who would you like to be?

Black Widow I think.

6. Do you have a favorite supervillain?

Loki perhaps? I'm not one of those fangirls but it is easier to like him then most super villains.

7. Can you think of a superhero who should get their own solo film, but hasn't yet?

Black Widow!!!

8. Do you read comic books?

*Hangs head in shame* No. My dad was always a fan but I didn't pick that up.

9. Why do you like superheroes?

Honestly it's nothing deep. They're fun, action packed and inspiring (not in a super deep way but still).

10. Have you ever cosplayed as a superhero? Feel free to share pics if you want!

No... unless you count my batman pajamas. ;)

Couples for Couples Tag

Cordy over at Any Merry Little Thought is having a Lovely Blog Party, which includes this splendid tag! You all know how I love tags so I'm filling it out! I might be stealing a couple answers from other bloggers who filled this tag out but they were too good and I can't help but agree!

Rules:
Using the prompts below, answer the following questions as creatively as you please
None of the questions require you to answer with a favorite in the category, only to find a fitting answer. They can be old, they can be new, they can be borrowed or they can be blue... they can be known or they can be unknown. You can explain your answer once you've given one.
If you don't have a blog, answer the tag in the comment section and for those of you who have blogs, leave a link to your answers in the comment section

Ivanhoe and Rebecca: Name a couple that should have been together

Joe Bradley and Princess Ann from Roman Holiday. Mia and Sebastian from La La Land.

Jo and Laurie: Name a couple that should have stayed friends...or did stay friends...

I absolutely agree with Jo and Laurie. Besides that.... hmmm.... can't think of any others off the top of my head.

Jane and Mr. Rochester: Name a couple that looked like the chances of a happily ever after were next to none!

Sister Bernadette/Shelagh and Dr. Turner from Call the Midwife. I remember in the first couple seasons seeing the growing affection for each other and thinking it was hopeless but so sweet and I couldn't' believe when it all turned out! I love them so much!!!!

Jane and Mr. Bingley: Name a couple that is just sooo happy!

Brian and I.... ;) Besides us you say? Hmmm.... No... no one is as happy us us. Other couples simply smile... we laugh! If you don't get that reference then we can't be friends.
But since I mention that quote then how can I not mention the couple that it's about?!?! Mr. Darcy and Lizzy Bennett!!!! See the whole question was wrong since it points out in the book that they are happier as Jane only smiles and Lizzy laughs! But now I've given away the reference. Oh well.
Just look at this picture! Joy radiates from their faces!

Kit and Ella: Name your favorite fairytale couple

Belle and the Beast. Eugene/Flynn and Rapunzel.

Molly Gibson and Roger Hamley: Name a couple where the woman is basically ignored by the suitor until the end of the story (frustration at it's finest!! :P :P)

I would definitely say Molly and Roger! Also Fanny and Edmund in Mansfield Park.

Sarah and Jacob Witting: Name a couple that found love later in life

I had to look up who that couple was cause I have a bad memory apparently... anyways for others with other bad memories they're from Sarah, Plain and Tall. Anyways.... I feel like in all the series where couples find love later in life one always ends up dying before they can get married!!! I hate that! Okay after some thinking and searching I remembered Miss Lavender and Stephen Irving from Anne of Avonlea, who are perfectly adorable!

Don Lockwood and Kathy Seldon: Name a couple from a musical

Oh I do love musicals! Seven Brides for Seven Brothers is my favorite musical and I do really like Adam and Millie from it so I'll go with them.

Anne and Gilbert: Name a couple that didn't start out on the right foot

I love Anne and Gilbert!!! Besides them so I'll have to go with Han Solo and Princess Leia. I also like Peter and Ellie from It Happened One Night.

Faramir and Eowyn: Name a couple with the sweetest love story

I do love Faramir and Eowyn but I'd have to go with Henry Tilney and Catherine Morland from Northangner Abbey... they're so cute!
<3
Well that's all folks!

Yet Another Period Drama Tag

I've seen this tag floating around for a week or so now and it looks like fun so I'm going to steal it. With a little searching I found it began over at Musing of a Jane Austen Wannabe and you an see the original post HERE. I've never read this blog before but looking over it I think I've found another kindred blogging spirit.

1. What was the most recent period drama you watched? Share what you thought of it.

I'm watching The Crown right now... halfway through season 2. I like it but parts of it give me complicated emotions.

2. Do you generally prefer period dramas in the form of a movie or a TV series/mini-series? Why?

It depends but normally I think I lean TV series/mini series. But if a movie is well done it can be just as enjoyable but there just tends to be more period drama mini series and TV series that are well done. I think the genre just lends itself better to the longer format.

3. What is your favorite musical period drama?

My favorite musical is Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, which I guess is technically a period drama so there's my answer!

4. Read the book first or watch the movie first?

I try to always read the book first and I was definitely pickier about that when I was younger and probably kind of snobby about it. I'm a little laxer now though.

5. What is a valuable life lesson you learned from a period drama?

Most of the life lessons from period dramas are pretty lovey dovey and unrealistic so probably not the greatest. I think though in Austen's works you get much more solid lessons like that of the danger of first impressions.

6. Which period drama hero would you be likely to fall in love with in real life?

Probably Mr. Tilney. He's so charismatic yet wise! He'd make me laugh but also keep my head on straight.

7. Do you ever like to binge-watch a period drama series?

Umm duh! Who doesn't? I remember spending a Sunday afternoon binge watching Pride and Prejudice (1995) one and it was AMAZING!!!

8. What things go best with watching a period drama?

I think someone to watch it with. I grew up watching period dramas with my whole family but now I mostly watch them with my mom and sisters. And I'm now slowly but surely introducing my husband to them. Besides that though popcorn and some tea are also perfect ingredients.

9. Which period drama do you think you would fit into best?

Hmm... so many to chose from! Maybe Call the Midwife because I'm a nurse and it's always been my dream (though I don't do so currently) to be an OB nurse or a midwife.

10. If you could have any period drama character for a best friend, who would it be? And why?

Anne Shirley I think.... but I'm afraid she might drive me crazy at some point... or perhaps I will drive her crazy with my lack of imagination? Oh dear!

11. Show us a picture of a period drama costume you wish you could wear in real life.

I love pretty much all of Elizabeth Bennet's and Molly Gibson's wardrobes!

12. Are there any period dramas you like to watch during a particular season or holiday?

We tend to watch On Moonlight Bay and By the Light of the Silvery Moon around Thanksgiving and Christmas.

13. Which period drama has your favorite soundtrack?

I love period dramas soundtracks so it's hard to narrow down but when it come down to it, it has to be Pride and Prejudice (1995)! I mean... Brian and I walked down the aisle to it!

14. Dream cast your favorite actor and actress in a period drama of your choosing; tell which parts they would play and why.

Mansfield Park because there has never been a great version of it!
Claire Foy would play Fanny Price.
Dan Stevens I think would play Edmund Bertram.
That's all of the casting I've thought up so far but I'm really really hooked on the idea of Claire Foy playing Fanny. She'd be so perfect! And I just realized that one of the other ladies that filled out this tag suggests the same cast! But I didn't realize that until just now! Not trying to be a copycat! Great minds just think alike! ;)

15. Are there any period dramas you like more than one version of?

I like both the 1995 version and 2008 version of Sense and Sensibility.

16. What are the top three period dramas that you haven't seen on your to-watch list?

Good question! Off the top of my head...

  1. Belle
  2. The Greatest Showman
  3. Return to Cranford

17. Show a picture of your favorite period drama hairstyle.

18. What was your favorite wedding in a period drama?

Just kidding!
I love all the weddings! I love going to weddings, watching them in movies just give me more weddings!!!! I think my favorite has got to be the wedding in Pride and Prejudice 1995. Look how happy they are!!!!!

19. What is your favorite biographical period drama?

I'm trying to think of which period dramas I've watched were biographical! As far as movies it's been a long time but I remember enjoying Miss Potter and Amazing Grace. TV shows though I love The Crown and Call the Midwife... though of course Call the Midwife isn't biographical really anymore.

20. Which historical novel will you forever recommend to anyone and everyone?

Coronation of Glory by Deborah Meroff! I love Lady Jane Grey and this is a beautiful book about her. You can't read it and not help but love her too.

If you love period dramas feel free to grab this tag!
