I know as recent as 50 years ago divorce laws were punishing towards women and I know even earlier it was basically social suicide for both parties - but especially the women - and their families. Having one idiotic main character and 1 jerk doesn't sound like a good read though. I think I'll try another Anne Bronte over this one!
